Top 5 essential oils for keeping cool

Essential oils have many benefits and one of those can be to help you feel cool. They can be used on their own or as a blend of 2 or 3, it’s great to experiment to find what you like. (they must always be used with a base oil).

They can be used to make a cooling spray, put in a cool bath or shower, in an oil diffuser or add to your moisturiser.  For those hot summer nights put a few drops on a tissue and place by your pillow or next to your bed for a good night sleep.

1. Peppermint Essential Oil


Exposure to heat  will deplete you of your energy levels. The refreshing fragrance of peppermint oil will keep your energy levels intact. Moreover, it comes with methanol, a compound that brings about a cooling sensation. 2. Eucalyptus Essential Oil


Eucalyptus has strong anti-inflammatory properties and is ideal for cooling the body. It helps to dilate the blood vessels which stimulate circulation, this helps to lower your body temperature.

3. Lavender Essential Oil


The cooling effect of lavender oil brings down your body temperature. It also relives you of the sluggish feeling and headache that scorching heat gives you. This essential oil an also soothe your sun burn.

4. Sandalwood Essential Oil


This oil can be particularly helpful for beating the heatstroke. According to the Ayurvedic school of thought, sandalwood is effective in governing the heat mechanism of your body. It also prevents excessive sweating, one of the symptoms of heatstroke. Moreover, the earthy, woody fragrance of this oil soothes your nervous system as well.

5. Spearmint Essential Oil

Spearmint has a muted, fruity fragrance and will give you the same cooling effect as peppermint.
You will get the feeling of a clear head, calming down and reduces inflammation by freeing capillaries.
Spearmint is a mild version of mint. If you find peppermint to be a little stronger than you want, spearmint oil can be a good alternative.

*Please note that essential oils are chemicals and must be used with caution. Never put neat on the skin they must be blended in a base oil like olive oil, coconut oil or sweet almond oil with a 2% blend. Essential oils must not be ingested and be careful in the sun as some are photoxic, especially citrus oils.
